The WOCA (Washington Orthodox Clergy Association) held a clergy retreat at the Holy Monastery of St. John the Forerunner in Goldendale, Washington on September 18th through the 20th . WOCA is made up of clergy from all the Orthodox jurisdictions in Washington State, which includes Antiochian, Greek, OCA, Serbian, and Romanian. For the priests from the Antiochian Archdiocese, it is always a special blessing to visit the monastery. Many of the sisters have left our parishes for the monastic life. In fact, the majority of the sisters have come from our Antiochian parishes in the Diocese of the West (9 of the 17 sisters came from Antiochian parishes). Our retreat included the daily cycle of services in the monastery chapel, fellowship with the brother clergy, and in an effort to become truly Christ-like, a carpentry project for the nuns. The Abbess, Evpraxia also gave a talk to the priests one evening. The retreat at the monastery ended with a memorial service for Father Thomas Davis who is buried in the monastery’s cemetery. Father Thomas founded St. Thomas Church in Snohomish, Washington and also served as the assistant priest at St. Paul in Brier, Washington.
